Fine Art

equestrian portraits

equine as an art form

For the elevated equestrian

As a passionate horse lover myself, I recognize and treasure the beauty in every horse I've ever met. These timeless sessions are done with your horse in mind, capturing their personality, beauty and your personal connection. Each session includes multiple poses from headshots to full body shots, with and without rider, and varying angles that focus on showing off your horse's best features. I only use natural lighting so no flashes, external lights or backdrops are needed. Each image is hand-edited with attention to detail. No need to worry about small scratches or blemishes you might wanted touched up. I do it all post-processing focusing on highlighting the natural beauty of your horse. I photograph horses and ponies of all breeds, ages and disciplines.

Book your session with your best friend today.

FAQ's

01. What should I do to prepare?

I want your session to be relaxed and worry-free as possible. The amount of preparation for your session is up to you, but this is what I recommend. Emulate whatever show preparation you might do for a competition. EX: Clipped, washed and cleaned, spray show sheen, make-up and competition outfit for rider, cleaned tack. Clipped ears and muzzles are not necessary, but I do highly suggest them as they show up very obviously against black backgrounds. For English horses, braiding their manes is a beautiful way to show off their neck and face, and look stunning for fine art portraits.

Sessions are done in the open doorway of your barn or barn aisle, so I always recommend sweeping the floor and cleaning clutter away from the open door that we will be using. I also recommend barn lights off, and the opposite door closed to prevent any light behind the subjects (you and your horse).

An assistant is extremely helpful if available as well! They can help hold the horse, shake a feed bucket or get the horse's attention for those pretty perky ear shots. I also suggest to use the show bridle that the horse usually goes in, with a simple metal snaffle -- but figure 8's and other jumper, dressage, and western bits are welcome. Before the session starts, have the reins removed and a thin lead rope attached to the bit, which will be edited out. It is just used for keeping control of the horse! Remember to bring your horse's favorite treats as well!

When you book a session, I send you a guide that goes over everything & what to expect!

FAQ's

03. Are there travel fees?

Depending on your location, travel fees my already be included. If it is outside of my 60 mile radius, we will discuss travel fees prior to booking. If traveling long distances or to areas that require a flight, I charge a flat fee for ALL clients to cover travel expenses. Don't be afraid to ask when booking your session!

FAQ's

04. Can you edit this out?

Most often, the answer to that question is YES! If it is a minor blemish, scratch, dirt mark, or spot on your horses that is not a *naturally occurring* spot on your horse, I can edit it out. I don't like to edit out birth marks, dapples or fur color patterns. I spend a lot of time making sure these images are perfect for you, so if there is something you wanted touched up I can absolutely do that for no extra charge.

However, editing cannot magically clean a dirty horse, dehair a furry coat or shine shoes that are cracked. Dirty bridle and tack can also not be edited easily on my end. Also remember that the more I have to edit out, the longer it will take to receive your images.

FAQ's

05. What are your barn discounts?

If I am traveling to a barn, I usually offer barn discounts. These only happen if I can get 4 or more people to sign up at the same barn, on the same day. So, if you are booking a session with me, ask around to see if anyone else wants a session! If you can get 4 or more people to sign up, the price of your session drops! I love doing this because I am already at the barn, and it gives some people a little bit of a more affordable price for a session with their horse.

FAQ's

07. Do you photograph multiple horses in one session?

Yes! I can photograph multiple horses in one session. There is an additional fee for multiple horses in one session however, as it takes longer to set up and move the horses around. If you are wanting an image with multiple horses in one scene, I usually do this when I'm editing. I'll pose them separately, then merge the images later while I'm post-processing in a believable image of your horses together!
